Be sure to check with your local Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Transportation.
While individuals are generally reluctant to act as references because of the “nuisance factor,” corporate clients are usually willing to do so. Also, many auto transporters are referred by van line companies. Ask for several references, if possible.
Ask for estimated pick-up and delivery times. You should be able to get a 3-day window for pick-up. Once pick-up is made, a fairly precise delivery date should be provided to you. If you need an exact date for pick-up, most transporters can pick-up your car and hold it at a terminal for an additional charge.
Owner/Shipper warrants that vehicle is fully insured and that such insurance will be maintained until delivery. Owner / Shipper agrees to allow AAT and the Carrier full use of all Owner / Shipper’s insurance in the event of an accident or damage to the vechicle. We require insurance certificates from all of our carriers,(independent contractors) copies are available upon request. Neither AAT (Broker) or the carrier’s insurance coverage is in effect while the vehicle is at any terminal location or while the vehicle is being driven to or from points of loading or unloading. The same applies to any drop location. Your insurance is in full effect when the vehicle is not on the carrier. Keep in mind that many auto transporters may discourage or prohibit you from leaving personal articles in your vehicle. Any personal articles left in the car are not insured. Carriers insurance will only cover vehicle while on the carrier. Owner/Shipper must have coverage prior to loading and immediately upon unloading.
The first question you’ll want answered is “what is the total cost?” Obtain quotes from several companies and be prepared to provide the following information to ensure an accurate quote:
- origination/destination locations
- departure date window for pick-up
- type of vehicle(s) to be shipped
- type of service desired (e.g., shipping vs. driveaway)
- special requests (e.g., drop off at a terminal vs. at your home)
